The program and guest list of the fourth edition of Kira Saskia Schinko's Wirtshaus Show were as contrasting as never before. For the first time, an entire audio drama production took place on stage, an intellectual heavyweight met a young cabaret artist, and a wind ensemble from Marktmusik Scharnstein provided local color in the Buddhist Center. The fact that all apparent contrasts merged into the harmonious unity of an all-round successful evening was probably due not least to the special spirit of the place Rangjung Yeshe Gomde at Scharnstein Bäckerberg.
For presenter and inventor of the tavern show Kira Saskia Schinko, the unfolding events presented quite a test in terms of composure: The guests announced up to the previous day had to cancel both due to illness or accident. Did it help Kira in this situation that she was accommodated by the Gomde Center team in the same quarter that world star Cher had already lived in? However, proven communication and organizational talent quickly brought a new guest to the show.
With Robert Misik One of the most brilliant minds in the European media scene took a seat at the stage regulars' table: journalist, author, sought-after commentator on political events in Austria (NZZ, Die Zeit, etc.). The cabaret artist acted as conférencier - this time as announced - Romeo Kaltenbrunner, who also set one of the main topics of the evening with his comments on xenophobia among the rural population. There was lively discussion about the differences between urban and rural life, which are particularly reflected in the respective tavern scenes, about life in Bubbles and the “shock of encounter” (R. Misik), which can still be expected in a rural tavern due to the somewhat colorful, rubble-free mixing of society. By the way, Kira revealed, that was one reason why a whole number of cabaret artists refused the challenge of performing in front of a completely unknown, unpredictable audience as part of the tavern show.
There was stormy applause for the Ö1 audio drama production “Die Hochzeit”, presented by author Marc Carnal, Michaela Bilgeri and Reinhold G. Moritz, in the second part of the evening. The satire, written entirely in pair rhymes, starts in a country inn and has been given a completely new, surprising ending for all those who have already watched the popular radio play on the radio.
As part of a Guided tour of the grounds At the hospitable Gomde Center, the audience had the opportunity to get in the mood for the evening and get to know the wonderful places of the complex as a place of retreat, meditation and as a starting point for the teaching of Tibetan Buddhism. Of course, the “Places of change”, where, in collaboration with the European Capital of Culture 2024, students from Austria, Germany and Great Britain created architectural-meditative oases.
The offer was also gratefully accepted by the majority of visitors, a vegan menu to eat. So the two chefs of the evening, Emilia Orth-Blau by Rosa und Marie and Simon Kotvojs from hin + wieder had al lot to do but also - as a look behind the scenes by our photographer Veronika Philipp reveals - a lot of fun preparing the celebrated delicacies.
